About the Owner of MDS Solutions HQ
A 4th grader went on a field trip with her class to “adopt-a-grandparent” at the old folks home. Everyone seemed to be disinterested except her. She was excited and couldn’t wait to meet her new grandparent. She had her own grandparents and they were awesome so getting another seemed like a lot of fun. And to her it was fun. She built a relationship with that grandpa for the next few years. Fast forward to 10th grade and it was time to pick volunteer project, so naturally she went back to the old folks home. She enjoyed playing games and reminiscing with the ladies there. She came to visit so much she was eventually offered a job and took CNA classes. After working as a CNA for a couple years it was time to go to college and a degree in nursing was a natural fit. She worked as a CNA to put herself through LPN school and as an LPN while she earned her RN. At the ripe old age of 21 she passed her RN boards. She did a little work in Med-Surg, Ortho and Pysch but her heart always brought her back to the old folks home.
Working in the nursing home was hard work, but enjoyable when she was around like-minded nurses and CNAs. She worked as a CNA and LPN in nursing homes before becoming the charge nurse so she was always ready to pitch in when staff was short and educate every chance she got. Because she was so experienced and genuinely cared, her co-workers were accepting. She quickly moved up the ranks to Supervisor, Unit Manager, ADON and DON. She enjoyed each more than the last because she was able to affect more lives - residents and staff - in a positive manner. When she became MDS Coordinator after all that experience, it was like the final piece of the puzzle had been given to her. She realized how it all fit together and made the SNF function. How everyone had an important role and how if one role wasn’t doing their part how it could all fall apart. And when they all worked together she could see how each role was connected to the next and something create something magical - or at least it seemed like magic when she experienced her 1st deficiency free survey!
It seemed like a natural fit when she was offered a role as a Regional RAI Director and she loved it! She even took a job as a Senior RAI Specialist to work with Regionals to help them improve their regions. It is during this time she figured out how the 3 main components of a successful Skilled Nursing Facility:
-
Replicable systems to improve quality of care
-
Education to make sure we were capturing money earned
-
Collaboration to promote teamwork that ultimately made employees happy to come to work and residents that felt part of a family
She worked successfully in this capacity for over 15 years before deciding that starting an MDS consulting firm of her own was the next logical step. A way for her to keep giving her love and knowledge to as many people as she could. A mission to reach out and improve the lives of as many people as possible.
